Moylussa

County Clare (CHP)

Hiking up Moylussa Country Clare’s CHP This hike starts at the busy little spot of Ballycuggaran Forest Car Pack just outside Killaloe on the R463 there is plenty of parking here ( I say about 20+ cars ). Once we got suited and booted we took of to the right to follow the path not the forest road, this cuts of a lot of the zig zag of the road you will rejoin the road at the top of the hill after 4 quite steep sections of this path ( gets the heart pumping from the start ). On the reaching the road at the top you turn right and follow the forest track with some great views of Lough Derg and Killaloe beneath you as the track leads you back into the forest you will come to a Y junction keep to the left heading upwards keep following this track and ignore all other paths off the track , till you come to the fire break this is a newly laid stone track on your right there are wooden post at the start of this track ( to stop motor vehicles I think ) now follow this path around and UP it dose get alittle steep at the top section , follow this as it zig zags up the side of Moylussa till you hit the fence line you can cross here and head up to the top of Moylussa ,we took the line of old fence posts to head to the CHP which is marked by a larger stone with a Plague on it Moylussa 1748 ft. Now Moylussa as two CHP there’s bit of a argument to which is the right one, so we then head southwest about 500m also to some sticks and wooden name plagues this is the other CHP, with great views over the surrounding countryside then making our way back to the fence line to rejoin the path to lead us back down of Moylussa, now I is just a case of retracing your steps back to the car park. Distance: 7.82 miles Time : 3hr 25mins ( we took about 30mins in breaks ) Energy : 1496kcal Info: supplied by Sports tracker
