The hike to Knockmealdown

                                                 ( Waterford CHP)

We parked up  at the Vee  and then headed up to the Gubb  monument and strait up Sugerloaf due south, I have to said that is some lung busting and thigh burning climb but the views are amazing from the top where we took a well-earned  break. The weather was being kind to us cloud level was just above us with the sun breaking through and the odd snow shower which pleased my Daughter Aisling. Then using the wall as a guide we took off heading for knockmealdown the CHP of Waterford  ( Some woman in the steam room back at the hotel later told me it was in Tipp, was not going to argue). After the main climb up Sugarloaf the rest of the climb is fairly easy going as to walk along the ridge following the wall all the way with some fantastic views over the surrounding Countryside, we were lucky enough to see down to the coast as the clouds cleared ( some say to can see the reeks on a clear day) We made camp for lunch at the top after finding a sheltered spot as the wind was bitter. we returned the same way but as we reached the base of Knockmealdown with Knockmoylan to our right we took the path that heads right zig zaging its way  down into the valley this can get a bit confusing as there are many little paths that shoot off from it ( as we found out ) but generally if you head north you we not go far wrong, you should meet up with the path and a sign for St declans way  turn left and that will head  you back up to the Car park at the Vee.
